Month: October 2011

Day 100: 100 Days of Appreciation, 12-month Platinum (International) Gym Membership, Vietnamese Coffee and Vermicelli!

100 Days of Appreciation and I feel like I’m on Everest. =) Thank you, Fitness First, for my special 12-month gym package which allows me access to all Platinum and Blue coded gyms here and all over the world. / Thank you for my free gifts. / And thank you for the extra 2 months I get at the end of it! / I heart vietnamese coffee and bun ga nuong (grilled chicken and vermicelli salad). / And I’m glad that in this lifetime, I got to visit the country that created it all! =)

Day 99: Thelma & Louise, witnessing the world turn orange at sunset, combat boots and veggie sausages from WOW!

I was trying to think what it is about road trips with Jo that I love. Is it the music? The company? Getting to kick off my shoes in the front seat? Is it the service station stop offs and the cups of crap coffee to keep us awake on the drive home the next day? Is it simply the convenience and continuous novelty of being driven in a car, or the fact that, because we’re such good friends, we don’t really feel the need to make conversation the entire time and that’s perfectly okay? Is it screaming old school tunes and the latest chart toppers at the top of our lungs, off-key and not giving a damn? Is it the catching up the morning (or afternoon) after and the one-on-one heart-to-hearts speeding down the motorway? And then I realized I cannot pinpoint one of these things because it is all of these things that make our roadtrips and weekend getaways special. So thanks, Jo, for another UH!-mehzin weekend. I think the film says it …

Day 98: Halloween, Whipped Cream, Happy Balloons, Cardiff and Gas Fireplaces…

Thank you Daneka & Co. for the awesomely themed “Deviants, Dictators & Do-Gooders” Halloween party. And everyone who came for making the effort to dress up. I have to say it was slightly disorientating sitting in a room full of the world (and history’s!) most hated men. / I love how everyone forgot about names and formality and resorted to calling each other by their costume name. e.g. “Hey Dalai! Can you pass the crisps?” “Sure thing, Amin.” / Another funny quote for the night – KC: So, Maverick, how did you and Jesus and Hitler form a band together? Maverick: Well, Jesus’ Dad taught me how to play the drums… And that’s how we all met. KC: Oh, so God taught you how to play the drums? Awesome! =P / Whipped Cream – perfect as trick or treat! / How can you not like balloons that make you smile? =) / Cardiff, I’ve always said that from the moment we met, you were the first place in the UK that really felt like it could …

Day 97: Jon LaJoie, Chairman's Reserve, Vegetable Broth and Amateur Beauty Therapists…

Jon. Jon, Jon, Jon. What is it with Jon’s and Johnny’s these days? They just crack me up! And I friggin love that!! Some of my favourite clips: Less Talkie Talkie, More Sucky Sucky. Everyday Normal Guy. F**k Everything. / Thank you, St Lucia, for this beautiful, beautiful golden rum. Sweet, neat and easy. I’m glad I brought some of this goodness home with me. / Fresh vegetable broth is one of the tastiest, healthiest and most underrated meals in the world. Thank you self – aced it once again. Queen of the 5-minute meals. =D / Ok, fine, I might be thankful for OXO vegetable stock cubes as well. But these were used for catalytic purposes only! =p / Glad I got to go to the spa in the end. Wasn’t exactly the best experience ever, but I appreciate that she did her best. We all have our off days… It’s Friday. The job is done. Move on. =)

Day 96: Cut/Copy, Spector, Skrillex and the Power of Dubstep…

Thank you Cut/Copy for flying all the way from Australia to give it your all on stage. Particularly loved Tim’s temper tantrum with the guitar and the moment he jumped onto the toms like a monkey and continued carrying on his musical rage of inspiration… Thank you for the following songs: Need You Now*. Corner of the Sky*. Lights and Music. Hearts on Fire. I would now gladly listen (and mosh!!) to a bit of electronic because of you =) / Thank you Spector for supporting the band last night. I could have left happy once you closed your performance with this song, “Never Fade Away”. I love everything about it – the repetition, the truth, the clapping, the drums, the crescendoing lift… even the cheesy eighties-style echo that sounds like a rip off from the opening credits of Baywatch. Rest assured you have captured it perfectly. / Thank you Paul for introducing us to Skrillex and the Power of Dubstep. Not exactly as happy as the first two bands on this list. But boy am I adding …

Day 95: The OMG Cat, The Pleasing Aesthetics Blog & Somniloquy…

Thank you, Choco, for starring in the OMG Cat video. You were very inspiring today. / Thanks, Sue, for introducing me to the Awesome People Hanging Out Together blog, which is how I stumbled upon the Pleasing Aesthetics blog. What great ideas! Both, I think, are equally as good. One is just cool anyway because of the people featured in it. And the other really is just eye candy and full of visual equivalents to the taste of rich dark chocolate. / Thank you, world, for listening to me whisper and talk in my sleep. / And for broadcasting my voice on the ethereal radio. The end. x

Day 94: Cats that bark, Manatee Face Smush, Passing praise, Seeing your hometown featured on the tele and Moussaka!

Thank you “noobdaily” for uploading this barking cat video. / And thanks “protozoider” for the Manatee Face Smoosh video! Made my day yesterday, and again today! / Thanks LH for the passing “Well done” comment. Good to feel like everything is back in control. At least for the most part! / Thank the greeks for moussaka! YUM! / Today – I am grateful for witnessing a transformation miracle before my eyes. I might as well have seen a cat barking! Oh wait – I already have seen that! =P / I love the sense of pride you feel when you see your hometown featured on the big screen… Okay, maybe Youtube is a small screen… But Batman was big!

Day 93: Alexandra Curran.

So I could be thankful for a lot of things today. For instance, I could be thankful for the fact that Jo managed to conduct her first ever “official” studio meeting today under my guidance and gentle steering. And for the huge smile on her face once it was over, and problem-free at that! / I could be thankful for catching up on X-Factor and Johnny’s brilliant performance on Saturday night (Unfortunately, I do have to quote Gary here and say: “Johnny I really enjoyed that [cue: sheepish grin].”) / I could be thankful for Kelly Clarkson’s new single and Bruno Mars’ sexy, James Brown-inspired performance. / I could be thankful for pragmatism, because when you have nothing left to lose, frankness comes easy. / But for today, those things are going to have to be parked to the side because today, nothing else can surpass the massive amount of appreciation and gratitude I have for having my sister in my life. Alix (Alexandra, Impy, Panini) – Happy, Happy 10th Birthday. Growing up an only child …

Day 92: The Rugby World Cup Final and New Zealand Victory, Sunday Roast a la Rooke, being able to do a big grocery shop knowing there's a car waiting for you outside, and meeting a martial arts stunt double from the new Pirates of the Caribbean…

All else aside, I’ve vowed always to give thanks where thanks are due. So thanks, Rooke, for preparing another lovely meal and putting in all the effort to make everyone feel at home and well catered for. / Thank you, also, for driving us to the shops and waiting outside while I ran back in to get more wine and soya bread and… a new set of razors. =p / Alex B. – pleasure to meet you and thank you for keeping me entertained with your stories of martial arts, swordsmanship and stunt-doubling for POTC On Stranger Tides… Will try and keep a look out =) / And finally, after 7 consecutive weekends of dragging myself out of bed first thing on a Sunday morning – many of which were rather heavy, jam-packed weekends! – can I just say thank frickin god the Rugby World Cup is finally over! It has been a long and incredible journey. So much has happened in the last 7 weeks alone and throughout all that, like a milestone every …

Day 91: Boris Bikes, Meeting Mr McQuigg and Witnessing the joy on my friend's face as she flashed us her engagement ring…

Love, love, loved riding around Notting Hill and Hyde Park today on these Boris Bikes. / Thank you, self, for staying balanced. For embracing every pedal, every push, every revolution and every breath around that park with grace. For allowing me to feel. And then for your patience. / Ben – it was a pleasure to finally meet you. / Kez – I’m glad I finally got the chance to congratulate you face to face. It warms my heart, seeing you this happy, excited and content. Cannot wait for the wedding. Love to you both x
